Dr. Williams Library - Index 1200 Births
Non conformist Ministers began in 1742 to collect together the General Register of Births (i.e. Non Conformist Births) and arranged for it to be housed in Dr Williams' Library in London. It was poorly used until 1769, when it became a repository for Non-Conformist Minister's books. The whole was handed over to the Registrar General in 1837.

In 1808 Trinity House took over the examination and licensing of pilots. The local Customs officer in each outport ( i.e. outside London ) made a return of pilots working there at that date; the Cowes return includes pilots from all areas of the Isle of Wight.
